Nafas Reading Series: Maura Modeya, with Antony Baher Fangary and Shreeya Shrestha, Friday, May 8, 2026, 7pm

As part of Nafas Reading Series, join us on Friday, May 8, at 7 pm, at Counterpath (7935 East 14th Ave. in Denver) to help launch Maura Modeya’s new book SAPPHO TERROR. Maura will be accompanied by Antony Fangary and Shreeya Shrestha.
Part long poem, part performance log, SAPPHO TERROR is a delirious text about empire violence, lesbian observation, insomnia, and guerilla poetics. In it, queerness becomes both the agent of terror and its object.

Maura Modeya is a poet from northern Minnesota. Their work attends to the lived-in world and what haunts it, focusing on insomnia, the ghost of Sappho, U.S. empire violence, queer ecologies, and the reclamation of public space through wheatpasting. She holds an MFA from Naropa University and currently lives in Atlanta. Maura’s debut poetry collection SAPPHO TERROR is now available from Prroblem Press.

Antony Baher Fangary is a writer, satirist and visual artist from California. His forthcoming poetry collection, Sour River (Noemi Press, Outspoken Press 2027), won the 2025 Etel Adnan Prize. He was awarded an NEA in 2023 and co-directs Litquake’s Elder Writing Project.

Shreeya Shrestha is an artisan and a writer. Born and raised in Nepal, Shrestha calls Boulder, Colorado her not-home.
Nafas Reading Series, hosted by Nafas Residency and Counterpath, brings together guests at the residency with local writers and artists for presentations of their work and conversation.
