Lisa Robertson: Screenings of In Painting and A Modest Treatise, Sunday, April 22, 2012
Sunday, April 22, 2012, at 6 p.m. Screening of In Painting (a collaborative work by Allyson Clay, Nathanael, and Lisa Robertson) and A Modest Treatise (Allyson Clay and Lisa Robertson), introduced by Lisa Robertson.
For many years Lisa Robertson has worked across disciplines and often in collaboration. With the late Stacy Doris she was the Perfume Recordist, an ongoing sound performance and writing project with work in the new I’ll Drown My Book: Conceptual Writing by Women. She worked as The Office for Soft Architecture, publishing reports, essays, walks and manifestoes as well as curating and cooking as OSA. Currently she is translating the linguists Emile Benveniste and Henri Meschonnic with Avra Spector.
Nathanaël is the author of a score of books written in English or French, including We Press Ourselves Plainly, Carnet de délibérations,and Absence Where As (Claude Cahun and the Unopened Book). In addition to her self-translations, Nathanaël (priorly published under the name Nathalie Stephens) has translated Catherine Mavrikakis, Édouard Glissant and Hilda Hilst, the latter in collaboration with Rachel Gontijo Araújo. She lives in Chicago.
Allyson Clay is a Canadian artist who has exhibited locally, nationally and internationally including Japan, France, Italy, and USA. Material approaches in Clay’s practice include painting,installation, photographs, text works, and video. The enclosures, pathways and permeabilities of the spaces and places of the affective and speaking city are investigated through these different media.
