Residencies
Residents will often have a specific project they intend to work on through the course of a residency. And we encourage residents to plan at least one event during the residency.
What Counterpath generally provides is a focused place to work, a place to display results of that work (or other work), as well as more in-depth engagement with the surrounding community.
Counterpath in Denver, 7935 East 14th Ave., hosts residencies that are typically two weeks to one month. Queries are accepted on an ongoing basis. Please reach out to counterpath@gmail.com.
Counterpath in Denver also hosts artists in the role of docent. Any given day consists mostly of free time, based on current levels of activity at Counterpath and very low foot traffic. The docent is asked to allow the functioning of the weekly Counterpath food bank (taking place on Fridays from 3-6pm), the ongoing free bookstore, Counterpath readings and events, and the outdoor space, which includes the garden. This may seem like a lot of activity but in fact is, again, very limited. The docent lives in the c. 200 sf apartment at Counterpath free of charge, paying utilities only (all standard, averaging c. $250/mo: water, gas/electric, wastewater, internet), and has ongoing access to the 1,100 sf. building and 12,000 sf outdoor space. Residencies at Counterpath in Cahors, France (La Contre-Allée) take place in the ground floor performance space at 292 quai de Regourd. Here again Counterpath provides the live/work space with a request only to pay utilities, gas/electric, water, and internet (averaging $200/mo). There is no other activity at this residency space. Length of stay is negotiable but can vary from 2 weeks to 6 months or more. Please send resume and cover letter to counterpath@gmail.com. Please have at least 2 references available.
